Pups are wonderful though they complain loudly if it gets too warm in this room. I get that. Saffron doesn't know what to do so she kisses them all over. Then she tries to feed them. She loves them so!
The pups are gaining anywhere from 6/8oz to an ounce each 24 hour period. They are doing well.

They eat, they sleep - they are contented. It's wonderful!
Saffron is wonderful. I snuggle with her on the couch while the puppies sleep. She's always on watch but is relaxed. The pups have doubled their birth weight and feel substantial - well as substantial as you can at this age. they have plumped right out. They also find mom and have started telling their siblings this is MY milk slot. They are cute.

Yawn, it's a tough day of eating, sleeping and being cleaned and cuddled by Momma Saffron. Can it get better than that? Saffron truly is an amazing mom!

Can you believe they are almost a week old. How did that happen?
The pups are active. They sleep. They make noises and I can't wait till we have eyes open.

Pups are really doing well. I want to call this gal Exótico - Spanish for Exotic as that is what she looks like to me.
These pups all have a very nice head. They no longer feel thin but have substantial weight for their size. I mean they are round and full bodied just like you want them to be. Everyone weighs over 7 ounces, a couple 8 ounces.
Saffron is mighty attentive.

Can you believe they are all over 5oz now. They are gaining well. They are mighty comfie between feedings and that's a wonderful sign. Pups that are sick won't eat, look thin and are not lively. They also have a dull coat. These pups have been active since birth. They eat well. They sleep well between. Momma Saffron coddles them
Here is today's gallery. I may add to it as the day goes on or maybe I will play recover. We shall see.
Saffron has had a comb out. She is eating well. Dennis is sleeping all day till 3 or 4 of course with interruptions at the door. Dogs go crazy with bell ringing. If I knew how to shut it off, I would and simply rely on knocking.

Pups are all fatter. they are lively and Saffron was so pleased to see me.
I wish there were more photos but I hear they have been busy.
All pups have gained and I put up a video tonight of the pups after I just got in with sound.
I will fill you in on more tomorrow with more photos. I want to spend time with everyone.

I can’t resize photos so no photos but when I get home tomorrow I will add a gallery and a pretty photo here and in tomorrow’s late entry. I am told the pups are doing well and all have gained. Looks like they have their hands filled as Safi sure needs a comb out. She will enjoy my return. Going to miss the pups but watching them they appear to be doing well. Dennis removed the Comfie bed as he prefers the minimalistic view. May be playing catch-up when I return. I am asking Dennis to record while I am away so I can upload moments when I get back. I have also asked that photos are taken and retained. But they do not know how to do galleries or upload videos. So look for updates Tuesday. I have asked that one or two photos are taken with the iPad and sent to me via gmail. We will see if they have time. Perhaps they will realize all that I do. I will be updating you on info such as gains etc if I can extract the info from them. So no galleries etc till I return. The guys will be busy without having to blog for me. Sorry.

It's less than 12 hours. Pups are lively. They are holding weight or very slightly losing - .01grams which is normal. They may eat before you weigh or eliminate which affects so we don't take weight serious for a day or so unless there is more than a minimal loss. Mom does have milk. Pups are eating. They are lively and there were no complications during delivery.
After mom delivers, I wash her back end and then dry her. She won't get a bath till the pups are 2 to 3 weeks. She will get groomed daily. I will use waterless shampoo but mom, at this stage can't be away from the pups for as long as it would take to do a full bath. So a full bath waits.
Saffron is happy and tired. She is confident that pups are doing well as she leaves the xpen to go outside to do her duties and to eat and drink. They are sleeping in-between feedings. These are all signs that pups are doing well.

UPDATE 230PM - all pups are gaining. This is under 1 day old. They are rather funny. They make noises till she lets down the milk. I even hear them smacking their lips. Such characters.

The 4th one was born as she jumped on my lap. All the amniotic fluid hit my bathrobe and legs and voila, a puppy.

It's been a very long night. Nathan crawled into bed at 430. I am still up till I can grab a few hours sleep to tide me over till the night.
It was an event filled delivery. All are lively, noisy if they can't find mom and doing well.
I can now go to Montreal not missing the delivery and knowing all are doing well. They certainly all are beauties! I just desperately need sleep. LOL
Dennis will do the night shift tonight. I will be departing tomorrow and Jon will be helping out till I get back.
When Nathan and Dennis get up I will try to get a couple of hours of sleep. Then pack. I will be back when the pups are 3 days old. I will watch the blog and get the idea of how it feels to be you watching and waiting for an update. I will update tonight then it is up to Nathan to carry the torch. You will enjoy his blogs. His sense of humour comes out.
Momma Safi has been cleaned off. She is doing well. She ate ice cream to help with contractions and then she had a bowl of mousse. She is now trying for a nap. That's a wise mom.

Saffron's temps are still in 99 range. She did nibble a bit last night but hardly anything. She's not eating this morning. We have class tonight so we shall see what the day brings. It may be Friday as the vet suggests. I hope so. She is reorganizing but not non stop.
A hair brush coming. LOL

She's doing a bit of housekeeping. Yes, we are ready.
Still 99.1 so doubt tonight unless things changing. Think she was just doing some housekeeping.
She has not eaten today so that's a sign too.
We have class tomorrow so watch it be tomorrow. nathan may be going without me. lol

In 2016 she had an oops and had a number of pups. In 2017 we purposely bred her and she had less. Well she had an oops thanks to our son. We did not plan this. I was hoping she was not pregnant. You see I have a weekend trip planned. As I already cancelled one due to pups, this one would create a world war 3 in the family. I think they would give up on me as they already believe I love the dogs more than them.
This was one tie that lasted 45 minutes. No you can't pull them apart. They are locked into position. Today we went for xrays. See below.
Click on Photo for Larger ViewCan you count them? Our vet thinks 6 to 8. I think 4 or 5, I am still waiting for my vet that really knows how to read the xrays to give me her number. But we know for a fact 4 - well I do and 5 is likely. More - we shall see. As we are not keeping one as we have Kai, well happy families this news will bring, I imagine.
At the moment we have Sadie (Thyme) here and she is 12 pounds. That is a Saffron pup. The one that got away. Her structure is outstanding and she has that personality that the Saffron pups have. Now we have Kai. Things happen for a reason.
When is Saffron due? Anytime from tomorrow on. I am supposed to go away on Saturday. I know Nathan can handle it without me. I know I can video and place up after I get back if she waits for my departure but if she doesn't have them by 7am Saturday, I will go with deep anxiety. I never get away. Nathan always.
So mixed feelings. I have never missed a birth. Nathan has with Jeannie. I won't have all those photos while it is going on. You will just get the pretty ones after. That's okay too.
She may wait till I am back. She may have them before I go. I am in a no win position but Nathan can handle this. That I know. It's just me missing out that bothers me so.
So, we shall see how it goes.
Her temps today are 99.5. Today is not the day. Friday will be nice. :-)

Next Thursday is Kai's last class with games night and review. As we missed the 1st one we have 5 classes. We did sign up for Total Recall. Kai is one of those dogs that gets excited when you say class.
We also signed Willow up for Fast Track obedience which is 4 weeks vs. 6. If we get enough in each class we will be going to class a great deal. :-) That's okay. Nothing better than the bonding you get from class and what they learn - bonus!!

She really loves Nathan and she really loves the class. Treats too!!
She now knows heel, beside me, stay, come, sit, stand. She also knows a proper meet and greet.
