Two Weeks 1 Day Old Tonight

Eyes are now fully open. They are starting to interact with each other though for small minutes each time they are awake. They are still sleeping a fair bit of time but between now and 3 weeks that changes as the days go by. They will start playing with toys and each other. 

All girls are now over 1 pound.

They love being held now. I so enjoy my time with them. It will be fun to see their personalities unfold.

Two Weeks Old Tonight: Eyes Open

This is the 1st born and she was the 2nd one to open her eyes.

This is the 3rd born gal and she was the 3rd to open her eyes almost moments after the 1st born.

Can you believe they are 2 weeks tonight?

Life will change in days as their eyes blur subsides. I will start adding toys. You will then see photos and videos of them doing more adventurous things other than sleeping and eating. :-)

13 days Old Tonight: Eyes Open Added

They will be 13 days old tonight. One has squinty eyes open. As soon as Nathan can take a photo with me, I will add her eyes open to this blog.

Tonight 12 Days Old

In 4 weeks from Saturday these pups will have their 6 week visit. Hard to even fathom. They haven't even opened their eyes yet but they will.

Saffron has fed them and can be seen in-between outdoors enjoying the warm weather. That is, as long as she knows the door is closed so her pups are safe. She watches that I close it.

Each day, many times a day I stroke and snuggle and get them used to the sense of touch. Puppies that are handled many, mny times early on enjoy it as they get older and are more relaxed. 

As these pups will be doing home around November 11th, they are apt to experience cold and maybe some snow - maybe not. Time will tell. 

I am enjoying these pups and they have been easy for mom. No crying. Not demanding and will only make slight noises when it is time to eat and mom seems to appreciate this vocal warning that it is time.

Short blog today. Pups are doing well. They are certainly getting round tummies. Momma is feeding them well!

10 Days Old and Nails

Nathan did the nails today and in the gallery we did them in order of birth with a nonsense floor photo inbetween so you can see that we went from pup to pup. 

Looking at this pup she looks like a chocolate. It appears the brown nose and pads are coming in. How nice!

Pups were great having their nails done. Saffron was outside so she didn't fret. It just timed out that way. She is starting to go out in this nice weather between feedings. 

Weight gains are really good. 

Can't wait till their eyes open. Life so changes when they do as they start to explore!

9 Days Old Late Tonight

Sleeping beauties. Here is the gallery today. Poor Saffron needs a bath but we have to wait till the pups are 2 to 3 weeks. We do this as they are sleeping long enough that mom won't fret getting back to them and pups won't be crying for her. But I still had fun putting on bows on her. It would have been better if she was freshly bathed.

Pups now weigh in order of birth 13 ox, 12-6/8oz and 12-2/8oz. Momma saffron is eating better but she wants to be hand fed and only eat the good stuff. Me too - hahahahahaha

I can picture getting hand fed purdy's chocolate covered cherries. hahahahahahah Well not sure who would do that. But these gals sure have it made!

Pups are doing great. they are getting plump and they now need their nails clipped. Nathan will probably do them tomorrow.

8 Days Old Late Tonight

Saffron was so delighted to see me today when I returned. The moms and I have a special connection. It is nice. I did buy her some funny barrettes. Going to put one on her tomorrow and you can tell me what you think. 

The pups have now really grown accustomed to me holding them. To me this is very important. The more you hold them the more they gained comfort. I find it a critical stage of touch and smell. they learn to trust without the visual.

7 Days Old Late Tonight

Can you believe they are 1 week old tonight. Here is the gallery.

They are gaining consistently. They are strong as you can see with their squirming and getting to the milk bar. If I have a pillow in there some climb right up on it to get comfortable. What does that tell you? 

I just finished grooming so this blog is going to be short. 

6 Days Old Tonight

Nothing like siblings.

Here is today's gallery. It's a small one as its been rather busy. It's hard to believe that late tomorrow after I go to bed the trio will turn a full week old. 

Saffron is a great mom. Pups are adapting to my holding and caressing them and showing signs of enjoyment. They are learning to trust without seeing. They can smell and feel me. 

I am really enjoying watching this crew though today that was fleeting as I had mega grooming to do. 

5 Days Old Tonight

Pups will be 5 days old tonight. As I type they are 4.5 days old. They are brindles the two darker ones and the 3rd lighter may actually be a chocolate sable. We shall see as it unfolds. All 3 have white tips on their back feet and all have a white chin streak. 

I clued into the chins on all 3 when I showed Tenshi's mom them this morning. It was a quick carry one or 2 pups out to see them and saffron seemed fine with Tenshi smelling them.

They are lively. They are gaining well. They are tolerating my holding which is norm at this stage. You hold them as much as possible so they feel comfort in the holding, stroking etc. Realize they only have feel and smell to rely on. When I say tolerate no one cries. They are just wiggly beings. It's wonderful as it tells me they are doing well. Lethargic pups are not feeling well in some way. 

They have solid output. Their digestion is working well. As Saffron had an upset tummy this usually passes on to the pups a day or so later. It means they are doing really well. They wriggle and crawl all over the place. Mommy is very attentive.

At times you will find 1 eating and 2 sleeping and other times all 3. It is a comfortable experience as they know if they make a noise mom is there. She cuddles and caresses them.

Mommy still wants to be indulged when it comes to food. Nathan made her lamb chops today and she ate it up. Sometimes she eats mousse and sometimes she says not. She loved the shwarma that we get at Rifkas. We will have to get some more. It's the best shwarma by the way.

4 Days Old Late Tonight

The two browns have white chins - how cute! Here is today's gallery. I was out to lunch with Yvonne. Last year I paid for her lunch and this year she paid for mine. We didn't get to see each other much this year but she came in to see her doctors and we had an excuse. It was nice! Got to talk building houses and a bit of havanese and we ate well. But I missed Tenshi coming and she brought Saffron's pups a gift - 2 pink blankets. Thank you says Saffron. My pups will enjoy the extra soft feel! Next change out will be to your blankies. Truly appreciated - pink - girls. :-)

Saffron is eating. she seems very happy today. Pups are gaining. They are now all over 8ounces and 1 edging up to 9 oz. 

3 Days Old Late Tonight

This is what motherhood does to you. You look mighty frazzled despite getting brushed.

Last night Saffron had an upset tummy. I gave her some liquid zantac and she threw it up all over me. So, she fed the pups but did not eat. This morning she refused to eat again so I gave her a tad bit of zantac and she now is eating and her tummy is no longer gurgling. The tummy gets upset after birth (humanas too) but she went from loose stools to solid. I felt bad for her as this is the norm after deliveries but her first litter she had no upset tummies. She also had a very easy delivery her first time. This wasn't bad but it hurt and therefore hurting introduces stress. Stress gives you upset tummies and loose bowels. She now has solid stool. 

So she is much better now. She is eating. Pups never missed a beat and ate and ate and she fed them well as they all gained. She is so attentive. They are so strong.

I take Saffron on the couch with me to get her massage and snuggles. She looks forward to it and I do as well. It's my time with her. I love how she lights up when she sees me in the morning.

Late Tonight Two Days Old

Pups will turn 2 full days old late tonight. They are doing really well. Saffron was restless last night but she's doing well this day. I think she wants me with her 24/7. She lights up when she sees me. Must be those magical massages.

With Nathan and Dennis they are the expert feeders and she needs to be coaxed at times. 

I will tell you all the pups since birth have gained over an ounce. Bravo little ones.

I will also tell you that once again she has great pups as they eat and then they sleep. She can sit in my lap on the couch, get groomed, cuddled and well they are sleeping. They make a noise and she goes running. I am so happy as a balanced mom makes for a happy mom. It's hard to gain balance when its all about the pups and not you the mom.

They are strong. They move to find mom without issue. Tomorrow was when I was expecting pups and there goes Saffron with her own timeline in mind.

Before 24 Hours Old

Soon they will be a full day old. Now how did that happen? We are still playing recovery and Saffron too. She has finally managed to get 15 minutes here and there of sleep.

Usually pups lose the first 24 to 48 hours as the milk comes in. Saffron has had milk for days. Pups are very comfortable with their environmentg. They are even sleeping on their back or sides.

I can't believe they are this size 3 days earlier than her first possible due date.

18 Hours Old: Gallery and Videos Added

Finally got Saffron brushed. Can't tell she had a bath yesterday but she will not have another for a couple of weeks as it would take her away from her pups too long.

I slept till 1130am. I then did 2 dogs and felt like I was going to pass out. Brushed a few more. Ate and relieved Nathan and he is now taking his nap. Soon Dennis will go to sleep so he can be up all night. I had a hard time staying up last night. 24 hours of being awake is tough at my old age. hahahah

Here is a gallery but realize you will see shots of Saffron before and after grooming. Those of you that have birthed kids know you don't come out looking like you are walking down the runway right after. 

Pups are eating so well that they eat and sleep between. Saffron is so lucky but she is in that super attentive mode and I will be glad when she truly sleeps. 

Having never had all girls in a litter I realize I have few girls only blankets. Yes first all girls. 

650am

It's been a long night. Saffron was restless. She needed to go outside, get fed, hugged and wanted to make sure I was there. I am exhausted. Pups are actually 3 different shades now that they have dried. I have not weighed them as they are not quite 12 hours yet. I will let Nathan do that. 

Saffron has had a bit of mousse, ice cream for calcium, steak and roastbeef. 

She is finally starting to nap here and there. It's been a struggle to convince her to and here I am if I closed my eyes I would be fast asleep. The last video I am putting up before bed shows she is finally resting and she needs it. 

Here's to bed. I will probably only sleep till 11 or 12 then I need to get up and start grooming. 

Coffee is made for Nathan. Water dishes are out. Bed is calling but they have to get up. :-)

It's 230am

Saffron went outside to do her duty. She has yet to sleep but truly needs to. Me too. Wonder if Nathan will comb out dogs for me. heh

Saffron's pups are strong and seem to find the milk stations. The camera is having issues but I will have to changed it out or Dennis will. I am too tired to do it myself and the extra camera is upstairs and I don't want to wake up the dogs or the guys.

Can you believe this gal went early? Go figure. 

Puppies Are Here

She's a large one for Saffron. She let Nathan know she was having it and he heard from outside. I was with her so no worries. She came out as if she was touching her toes.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewNext one born is a girl born at 10:57pm. She weighs 5-5/8oz 162g She is a brown sable. She kept stretching so getting a decent photo was interesting. They are both sables - now this will be interesting to tell the 2 apart.

Here is the gallery from bath to whelping.

How did it go? First one was the largest so she yelled and Nathan heard her outside. She came out folded as if she was touching her toes.

The 2nd one was breach and stuck so Nathan got her standing up. Yes, I said let her stand up and have gravity work with you. He massaged the area and got the puppy out. She was not stuck for long. She also came out lively and looking for food. 

The 3rd one also came out breach and was halfway out but she was the smallest and came out rather quickly despite her half in and half out experience. 

These pups were larger than her last and she felt these pups getting born unlike her first who just plopped out.

She was a champ and was very restless until all 3 girls were out. Now she is a proud momma and needs to rest but she is too happy. She keeps kissing them and cleaning them. It's going to be a long night for both of us. Dennis took a nap so I am not sure why I am up but I get those first moments and they are special.

All 3 girls are very active, eating well and finding the milk stations on their own. But I won't get to sleep till 7am and will sleep till noon and then I have dogs to wash to go home. Then Dennis naps and he will do teh night shift.

Tonight Dennis has the boys and Nathan has the girls as we have Jeannie and Inula in heat.

Nesting and Panting

Today it seems. She is nesting, panting and making noises. Nesting that goes on when moms are having pups is a tad different. It's frantic. It doesn't stop. They make labour pain noises and they pant.

Saffron is doing all of it. Earlier than expected but not 2am.
