First Hall Visit

Pups are amazing. No matter what environment, they adapt. We took them out to the hall for the first time and they embraced it so well. They even found the tunnel. they played and played and then they dropped. We can't time the outings at this stage. It's nap them wake up and eat and then you have this window of play.

Here is the gallery.

Christine came to pick up her duo and they were fast asleep but we woke them up so she could hold them. She was fascinated how the camera picks up the colours different. The flash and or lighting can change perception. They will be lovely colours but colour is not my thing. They are going to have outstanding personalities. You can already see it. But no surprise.

They all have teeth and I need to get some split antlers for them as they are chewing or trying to chew on everything. They each have multiple teeth.

Whenever I am cleaning the pen they try to steal mom's food.

We are going to try to put them upstairs sometime maybe by Tuesday or Wednesday. It gives us sometime to get the upstairs area ready and it will be after the holiday visitors.

As we only have 2 families for these pups (we are trying to carry the line on) we may do the 6 week visit in the hall. We shall see.

Here is the video from the hall visit and outside of the xpen. You will see how amazing they are. The play with Nathan is so fun to watch! Watch out! They are kissy pups. They have that Spice in their line. :-)

We are not doing many videos today as we are celebrating Thanksgiving with the daughter.

Amazing What a Day Does

Pups were stealing mom's food and LOVED it. They also was out in this room while I cleaned up the pen. Be sure to check out the videos

The pups already passed their deworming. Bowels are good. No more straining and they are stealing momma's food so I made soft kibble and roast beef and chicken for the pups and they are eating it well but they also walk through it. Got to laugh. They are young pups still and it always comes together.

Check out the gallery.

The littlest tries to get out of the xpen. She is a riot. She will be smaller but big in fun personality.

I had a lot of grooming to do today but boy that time in-between grooming is delightful with them. They get so excited to see me it is good for the soul!

Nice Weather and Deworming

Did a deworming yesterday and pups were straining going today. This is the norm at this age. I hate deworming - truly do but I do it as all vets expect you to do so when they go home so we do it before they go home.

Deworming tends to either constipate them or loosen them up too much. I feel so bad for the pups but this too shall pass and next deworming will affect them less. Add food into the mix and it is so much fun and it's all on me. Puppies need to drink more water but at this age they are just starting to see the value. Momma's fluid is not sufficient to combat the side affects of deworming. They need water to help. So, I may give them 1cc to help the digestion along. They are not sick. It's like humans where you take certain medication and until your body adjusts you may have an output issue. It passes. Realize they are still under 2lbs. I suspect next deworming in 2 weeks they will weigh more and be drinking more.

They get dewormed every 2 weeks till they go home. Then they will not need it. Doubt they need it now but its an expectation. These pups bowels have been good throughout till this deworming. After this goes through their system they will return to normal.

The pups got to go out again today. Think we will do it daily unless it is raining or we will take them into the hall.

Today I sat with each and held a plate under them and they all ate. Then I put it down and as you will see in a video they all ate on their own. They are growing up and getting there. They are great pups. Their tails wag with excitement and they love to kiss and snuggle. They are starting to climb and jump. It's a riot. I just love their fun nature.

Here is the gallery.

I love these pups and Saffron - well she is amazing.

2nd and Third Time Outdoors

Due to this great weather the pups had a 2nd and 3rd play session outdoors. Be sure to check out the videos.

They are play fighting. They are jumping over things. They are wonderfully happy to see me - be still my heart. They sleep about 4 to 5 hours between playing and eating now.

Here is the gallery.

Momma Safi went into protection mode when she saw some birds flying low down to look. She corralled them and started barking at the birds. Never saw that before but they did fly back up.

Pups are eating softened kibble with chicken. Mousse - nit huge fans of it - at least yet.

First Outdoor Play

Check out the videos to see how they did. We are going to try to get them out again today considering that we have warm weather.

I made softened kibble and chicken. One liked it, the others said nah. This is typical. They make the leap on their own timetable.

See the gallery.

They are real characters and they are so easy to love!

UPDATE: We had them out again - well I did. Nathan was taking a nap with the dogs. Those photos and video tomorrow.

4 Weeks 2 Days Old

If it is warm enough we are going to try to take the pups out on the deck.

Here is today's gallery.

Pups just love to play with you now. They get so excited with tails wagging. Nothing like a puppy to brighten your day!

4 Weeks 1 Day Old

These 2 look quite alike though there are some distinct differences. The 2nd born gal has a larger head and so I believe she will be the largest. The chocolate sable will be the smallest. The smallest reminds me of Tenshi in personality. It's a riot!

See today's gallery.

They certainly all have delicious personalities. Can't wait till it warms up so we can take them outside again!

4 Weeks Old Tonight

The pups are hit and miss on eating food. I have caught a puppy drinking on video. bravo. They are playing more and seem to be a truly fun bunch. They crawl over mom and each other without a care in the world. If I try to get them to eat on a certain milk station they tell me no and when you stop insisting, they will drink. They are not overly thrilled when they skip one and in the morning one is over filled. The milk just comes out too fast. So I get it but that's the one she needs them to feed on. :-)

Here is today's gallery.

They are using the pad more. They are having accidents which is normal for this age. Sometimes they make it all the way to the pad themselves.

The chocolate is now 3 ounces lighter than the sisters. She is shorter in body and will be smaller. She is quite the character.

One Night Short of 4 Weeks

Eating is a hit and miss with this trio. That happens. They prefer momma's milk but Dennis and I tend to get them eating some food but Nathan not so much. Nathan usually has the touch. they want to eat when they want to eat not when you want them to eat. ROFL!

Here is today's gallery.

Tails wag when I go to play with them. They are so delicious. They are now eating 4 plus hours apart.

Until they are eating food well they can't be without mom at night. usually by 5 weeks they are upstairs and mom is back into bed with me. this creates some independence but no doable till they are eating. Rarely does this happen at 4 weeks.

3 Weeks 5 Days Old

Got a cheeky one. Saffron has a bow on her head and guess which one keeps going after it. Oh my - it begins! This one is highly curious.

Trying to figure out how to set up the pen for food feeding.

Here is the gallery.

I think they are walking well enough to try food. We shall see if they like it.

Took a couple out to see Lynda today and they were in that oooohm yoga space of relaxation.

Such a great trio of gals!

Check out the videos. Nathan cut their nails today.

3 Weeks 4 Days Old

Ever notice that these 2 seem to play with each other and the chocolate one seems to play with mom. It's still early but it is an interesting observation.

It is amazing how in 3 weeks they go from fragile beings to sturdier pups. Okay, they are still pups and you have to be extra careful with them at this stage handling etc but really they feel so solid.

Here is today's gallery.

They are so adorable and fun to play with. They seek me out and enjoy their time with me. It feels so good.

Be sure to check out the videos as well.

3 Weeks 3 Days Old

Yes we are edging into 3 and a half weeks old. Wow how did that happen? They are getting much better on their legs. Soon they will eat food. You should see Saffron playing with her pups now. Check out the videos.

They are so funny. You wake them up and they have to play before eating. Perhaps they can go longer between feedings. They are certainly not starving and at 3 hours they are still sleeping but Mommy wants relief.

The pups are so loving and cuddly and they love the interaction.

Walk About

We had a walk about today. No one shook. Everyone was fascinated by the attention and the outside world.

I think we will do this till it cools down. I may not take photos daily of them outdoors as it may just be me walking them around but it will be great exposure when they can go outdoors.

Here is the gallery.

The pups are now 3 weeks 2 days old late tonight. They adapted to their new surroundings immediately. They wag their tails when you play with them and give the best kisses.

It will be colder by the time we can take them out on the deck so we may have some shivering from the cold till their bodies adjust.

They have really become great on their legs and they love to climb in and out of the crate or over siblings or toys. They are strengthening their legs.

They are now eating after 3 plus hours. I can tell you one is lazy. sometimes 2 of them are. They wait till the milk comes in and then they will eat but participate in getting it to come down - really?  By the latter part of the week we will be introducing them to food and water. as soon as they are eating sufficiently we will be bringing them upstairs and they will have their nights without mom. Saffron will come back to bed. this will be the beginning of teaching them independence. It all works.

The pups are delicious!!

New Digs

Check out their new digs in this video. Sorry I tried but its a bit less than smooth but you get the idea of their comfort level. Here are more videos.

They now have a huge area to explore. They can see out easily and therefore they get conditioned to the activity. as it is warm tomorrow I may take each outside for a look see in our hands.

When they went to their new area we didn't have any hesitancy. I think Momma Safi was more concerned than they were. She wanted to feed them non stop so she now has a closed gate. It will be open tonight. She will have free access each time they wake up. When pups eat too frequently they do not gain weight. They expel too much energy and mom can't create enough fluid to fill them up. Plus they are burning energy with trying to walk and getting into the exploring mode. Safi has already calmed down.

When I say feeding too often, she was trying to feed them every half hour or so and guess what they tried but really didn't eat. Now with giving them sleep between they are eating well.

We still have to move the heat lamp, gather up the cords behind and figure out the best placement for the camera so I can see the whole pen. Dennis thinks it is impossible. I also need to organize the supplies. We will get there.

Pups are wonderful and they love giving me kisses on my legs, my face, my hands. It's adorable!

Come Saturday or as soon as they are very solid on their legs, we will try them on food and water.

3 Weeks Old Late Tonight

They will be 3 weeks old late tonight. They are now interacting with me and each other.

They are also getting better at walking. I am so impressed.

Here is the gallery.

They are also trying to climb out so perhaps by tomorrow we will be taking them out of the whelping box. It may have to wait till Monday as we are extra busy due to this fine weather.

Saffron has finally started feeding 3 hours apart or just under 3 hours. This is a huge improvement. She was feeding every hour and a half to 2 hours. She is letting them sleep and therefore sleeping herself. She is very attentive.

They are all now 1lb 5 ounces to 1lb 6 ounces. it is wonderful to watch their milestones.

I catch Saffron many times just staring with them and smiling. She continues to be an amazing mom.

19 Days Old

They are getting animated and playing. It's begun!!

Check out the gallery. I apologize for some of the washed out photos but I had the flash on. Then I realized. :-) What happens when you are multi-tasking.

They only stay awake for short periods but now they are interacting!

18 Days Old Tonight

I am amazed at how fast time goes by. I find it hard to believe that it is a solid 2.5 weeks since these beauties made their debut.

They take being out of the whelping box as an opportunity to explore. I then have the ability to change out their bedding and realize soon they will be out of their whelping box.

Saffron is a picky eater this time. It drives us crazy. She either eats like she is starving or turns her nose up at whatever you offer her but eventually she says - well that suits me fine. I have to go get her more shawarma as she always seems to be in the mood for that. Me too. Nathan not so much. He grows tired of it. heh. But he loves us both so he goes at times.

Here is today's gallery.

Pups are pretty relaxed when you snuggle and caress them but they wriggle like crazy in the scale which makes the scale bounce. It can take a bit of patience to get a good reading but they are gaining. Mom sometimes wants to feed them too much or just lay in there with them. The issue is 1 will eat, 2 won't or 2 will eat and 1 won't. I am not a fan at this age of allowing skipping. But if they are gaining and lively they are good.

17 Days Old Tonight

Can you believe we are almost 2.5 weeks old already? Another half of a week and Dennis will be sleeping in the same room but won't have to make sure all pups are getting fed all night. He could probably do that now but by 3 weeks they are more mobile. Saffron is doing a good job in getting them to eat. Watching them at one feeding just before my wake up time they all found their way to mom and ate well.

Saffron and the pups are wonderful! I do so appreciate them letting me caress them and I love how they enjoy it!

Here is the gallery.

They continue to try to walk. They can now hear, smell and soon will be fully walking.

16 Days Old Tonight

Thanks to Amy's mom and dad for this carpet. It's perfect for the little ones when I change out their whelping box. They look great on it, don't they?

Here is the gallery.

All the pups are over 1 pound now. They are starting to interact and they love me holding them.

they each try to get up on their legs to strengthen them. Exciting times coming!
