2 Days Old: Added More Shots to Gallery

Today's gallery. Did you know that when pups are tanking up (getting an abundance of milk) their tails go up? When they first start suckling they are priming the milk slot and then the milk is released and the tails go up - ah the mother lode. :-)

Pups are doing well. They are gaining well.

First born birth was 6-3/4 191 g. This morning after 2 days he is 8-3/4oz and 250g

2nd born gal at birth was 6oz 171g. She is now 7-3/4oz 222g

3rd born tri like Jeannie was 6oz 171g. He is now 8-1/8oz 233g.

This will and does change from day to day. All we care about is the gain. Did they gain. If they are gaining at this point they are doing well and getting enough nutrition. These pups are mighty active.

Jeannie still has loose bowels (normal). It usually lasts for 3-4 days but I did give her something to settle her tummy. She is happy. She is eating. All is well.

Over 24 Hours Now

Here is today's gallery. Pups are gaining quite well. In a 24 hour period they have all gained close to an ounce (7/8) to 1-1/8oz. This is amazing for the first 24 hours but realize she has so many milk stations and only 3 pups so milk is in abundance.

You will notice in some of the videos that they are quite active too.

Poor Jeannie has loose stools (typical with all moms and nothing to worry about). Her bum has to be cleaned each time and dried. So I now have my drier out that blows the water off of her quickly. She is very relaxed about eating and doing her business. She has the confidence the pups are fine but only for a short bit and then she has to get back.

Dennis said she did well last night. Nathan is driving the grandkids to school and well we are in wait for the others. We just hope it doesn't happen on Friday or Saturday as we have family gatherings and food to cook. (that should be funny). It is what it is.

Later today or tomorrow I will try to get Nathan to hold each pup to get photos of them upclose and personal. All 3 are tris. The gal is already an independent one.

First 9 Hours

Here's a gallery. I got 4 hours sleep. Nathan is now napping now. Pups seem to be doing really well. I have now combed up both sides of Jeannie. She has gone outside. She's eating. Pups seem content on eating and sleeping. They are strong too.

I comb out one side then the other. Don't want to take her away from the babies too long. Early this morning she had her backend shampooed and dried. 3 loads of laundry was done.

Puppies are Here

First one os a boy. Looks like a very dark brown with light colour in feet, under tail. He is a tri. He weighs 6-3/4oz 191g and was born at 331am

Second one born is a girl and was born at 418am. She weighs 6oz 171gram. She is brown and white and apricot and is a tri.

Third one born looks like Jeannie's colouring and is a boy. He was born at 445am. He weighs 6oz 171grams.

I am exhausted. We did not have any issues. Just took awhile. I said 4am. I was pretty close. I woke Nathan up near 1am. He says midnight. I thought her pups would come fast after the water presented itself. It didn't. She had absolutely no issues. All 3 pups are eating well. Jeannie is eating well. Pups just took their time.

Here is a gallery. Some may be blurry but I have no time and I am rather exhausted.

I need sleep badly but Nathan grabbed his as soon as he could. That leaves me to wait till they all wake up.

Here are some videos just putting numbers on them as no energy to do anything else.

Latest

This is how it works. The human mom stays up with Jeannie downstairs and Dennis sleeps with some of the dogs and Nathan with the rest. I will wake Nathan up when pups are starting to crest. It means when she is done, I will crash. Usually Nathan goes into the guestroom and I sleep with a few dogs but I spend my night creating a wide berth on the bed to keep mom close but no one close to her. I spend all night long checking her bottom to see if she is close. Mom also wants to move around so I spend a lot of time following her around. I am hoping this works better. I will let you know when it is done.

It still means I won't sleep but mom will feel more relaxed and maybe get the sleep she needs before she has pups coming. This will hopefully give her more energy. I will still be the beyond tired one but maybe mom won't.

I had her outside in the cool air earlier and she did sleep. I am glad. Wish I was able to but they kept letting dogs out to join us so there went that.

I also have her tied up everywhere so she won't get as dirty and we are not pushing hair out of the way when pups come.

I have had to clean Jeannie's bottom now going on 6 times. It means she thinks she has to go as she is feeling pushing. She is digging but pups are not close yet. That can change anytime or not.

It's going to be a long night, I imagine.

Temps: Updated

Here are her temperatures:

854am it was 98.3F

11:40am it was 98.3F

1pm it was 98.3F

245pm it was 98.6f

430pm it was 97.9

8:30PM it was 98.8F <-- it's gone up. She's not in active labour but panting a bit and digging.

They say when it bottoms out to 98 or 97.9, then you have about 2-12 hours.

She has checked out her whelping box but she is not panting or showing any other signs. My luck it will be 4am. Stay tuned.

Temp Drop

Can mean pups in 24 hours. It can mean a false drop which does happen. Her temps this morning was 98.3. She did investigate her whelping box but she did not dig nor is she showing any signs of anything other than the temp drop. I did tie up her hair to give us easier access. I did shave around all her milk stations.

Nathan is off to a club meeting so he is not worried and besides I can do it all but I wouldn't be able to do photos. <smile> Think we are safe. We will report as the day goes on.

If you look at the xray 2 of the pups were in position. One may come out feet first unless it decides to turn around and they do turn around with more room.
