Happy Parenting

I have dogs to groom and wash before departure today. So, blogs will be later. But I will let you know in a bit why the moving of 2 pups worked for everyone.

As you can see, Raven is a happy girl.

Here is the gallery.

I take weights each morning and each night till about 2 weeks old and then I go down to once a day. Cinnamon's pups have been gaining like crazy despite 7 but she eats really, really well. Leti is a smaller gal and is actually smaller than Raven. Her pups were continually gaining but about 4/8oz daily. Nothing wrong with that but Leti is producing less milk. She has to be hand fed to eat well. As she goes and the pups eat more, she will produce more milk and eat better. I know this as this is what she did last time.

They all get to where they are meant to be eventually in weight and size.

With Raven she had so much milk from the get go. Raven ate like Cinnamon right out of the gate.

I took weights this morning. The 2 Raven pups from Leti that are now with Raven gained 1-4/8 oz and 1 oz in 24 hours. This is up from 4/8oz. Raven's boy gained 1 oz in less than 24 hours. The Leti pups that are with Leti gained from 7/8 to 1-5/8oz in 24 hours. This tells me, at this point in time, Leti has enough milk for 4 or there are some I want it all pups that were taking from the others. It is most likely the latter. LOL. Raven has enough for more than she has.

So, this all works. Interesting enough the 2 Leti pups are a similar size to Raven's lone boy. If you watch the videos, he crawls just like the older Leti pups. He is a strong one. He is also quite pretty.

Videos can be found here. I update as I have time.

Update Weight

Raven is eating well. She is happy, happy, happy! Her boy gained weight already. Her two other adoptees gained as well.

Blessings counted as we have only Leti that needs to be handfed. LOLThough I gave all 3 moms a lamb bone and they were nuts about it. As they ate all the meat away, I then took the remaining bone away. They were happy with this treat! They deserved it, don't you think?

Pup is Here Update and Gallery

Click on Photo for Larger ViewRaven kept me up all night. Nathan made it after my screaming for him. He made it at the end of her delivery. He arrived on the scene after I had done everything except having the placenta come. I am tired. Her first and only is a good sized boy who looks just like her. He was born at 356am. He weighs 7-7/8oz 223grams.

Although she was in pushing labour for 2 hours, I knew the pup and her was not in stress. I checked the fetal heartbeat and she was not crying - just pushing. I am so glad she didn't need a c-section. I watched mom and knew things were progressing. When he arrived it was silent. I was then trying to take care of mom, pup and try to do videos - which I am uploading and photos. It's actually too much by oneself but I got some of it done.

See videos here. I will continue to upload.

It was all natural after all that and a beauty.

Here is the gallery.

I made a decision last night before I crawled into bed that we needed to give Raven a Leti pup. She has too much milk. Plus a singleton can eat too much and have difficulty walking at first.  This morning I decided to give her another. They will forever more be discussed as Leti pups but Raven will feed them. Last time we did this was with Spicy as she had so many and both moms knew and mothered that boy throughout. I have really good moms. I would not breed them if I didn't. They are supportive to each other. This is NOT always the case with other moms as I hear the stories. But for us this works. Raven is happy. Leti is happy and both know.

This means Leti is feeding 4, Raven is feeding 3 and Cinnamon is feeding 7.

Raven's boy has not lost or gained but he is only 6 plus hours old. She is happy. She was bleeding quite a bit after birth but that has stopped. When you have multiple pups, they push out a bit at a time and with one, it all came out at once giving you a perspective something was wrong.

Sherry made a beautiful mat but we left half of it covered with a towel to absorb the blood. I have now removed it.

Raven has been outside. She is so excited to see the pups.

I think I am way too old for these night deliveries. I feel as if I am in a fog but I will recover. But I wouldn't have it any other way. The moments I share with mom during this time is so great.

Nathan was initially going to stay up with her but that part has always been me and it quickly went to - I am going to sleep, yell when she delivers. Well, I did... and I did and I did. LOL

Nathan mentioned due to the vets and what she told us he would have been in having a c-section after a half hour of pushing. I know my moms and Nathan and I balance each other out. When it all comes down to it, he is amazing delivering. I am the calm, this is what you do or need to do person. You need both, I am just upset he didn't experience this till the pup was out. I did try.

Update Today

We are waiting in comfort. Temps still at 98.3. She's not eating. She is vomiting bile. She is getting close. She wants to stay in this room near the whelping box. No outside desire and no being with the other dogs. It is good as Connamon and leti are adjusting to her being here.

Waiting

Okay - when is it my turn? I want a pup too!

We called Whitby Emerg and was unhappy with their prices. We called our local vet who said if its this weekend, call her cell and she will do it. Now I know she is going to go natural as we have something great in place.

Raven is taking a nap with Nathan.

Ultrasound

Click on Photo for Larger ViewLooks like not today for Raven. Our vet feels this weekend. If she is in hard labour and she is pushing for a half hour without anything, we are to go to Emerg in Whitby. Pup will indeed be breech and he/she is long.

So nothing new. Just not today and his/her heart is strong.

Update

Vet comes tomorrow at noon. I will try to take a photo of the ultrasound screen.

Whelping area is set up minus the heatlamp. It's a bit crowded in here. LOL

More tomorrow.

Today's News

Raven is vomiting this morning. Temps are still in high 98s. My guess is in a couple of days - maybe 3 at most. We shall see.

I am not worried. You should not be. I have a feeling she will go natural.

XRay and Update

Click on Photo for Larger View

From vet:

In regard to Raven, lets check her at noon on Thursday, October 17th.  I will come to your house.  Keep a close eye on her temperature and behaviour and we will adjust plans from there.

Now realize that just because the pup is large doesn't mean she can't have it naturally. It also doesn't mean it will be large in adulthood. Size at birth does not define adult size.

Little Complicated

With one, we will have to monitor Raven and hope she does not need a c-section. This puppy will be an expensive one but well monitored. LOL

Our vet thinks she can't go longer than the 16th/17th.

We are hopeful she can whelp on her own.

Our vet said:

However, with that radiograph being done yesterday, that pup is close to calcified and as expected large as a singleton.  I believe that pup is going to need to be taken on October 16th/17th.  I have some of these small breed singletons surprise me and whelp naturally, but 65% usually need a c-section.

Belly Shot

Raven has not had a bath as I am waiting till the day before her xray but as I was taking belly shots of the other 2, I figured we would do hers. Here is her gallery.

In 'my' estimate she is still 2 weeks away. She was the last. She may be earlier. She may be later.

She does not have a big tummy but she was like that last time. She grew sideways. We shall see what her xrays say on the 10th.

Mon 14 Oct 2019 -
